Although the main culprit in these situations can be large fashion houses that pump out products with the Just In Time production method, there are plenty of other culprits when it comes to countries that we can export our damaging manufacturing processes and also our toxic “recyclable” materials. It also comes down to how many materials are being displayed and advertised to us to a point where so many people throw out so many of their garments and etc. This deep brainwash of throwing out everything leads to excess waste, consumption, and then unnecessary damage to the earth which in turn has brought plastic into our food.

The fashion industry’s impact on the environment has been significant, causing considerable damage. This video delves into the depths of how the industry has contributed to environmental degradation. However, there’s a growing awareness within the industry, with a newfound understanding of the need for a more sustainable approach to garment production.

The environment is beginning to require more attention from major production facilities and eco-harmful manufacturers, and the video discusses the awareness being drawn to sustainability. Hope is embedded in the possibility that fashion business can coexist with climate preservation and prioritization.

The above video on “Global Fashion Business and Sustainability” looks at the environmental costs associated with the fashion industry and advocates for sustainable practices to mitigate their impact. The article emphasizes the need for companies to work together to adopt more environmentally friendly production methods. This insightful video is a reminder of the urgent need for sustainability in the fashion industry. I also think one of the things people are trying to do to commit to eco-friendly fashion is to recycle old material instead of wasting it to create more waste.

It’s remarkable that a 3 trillion dollar industry is just now getting noticed for how harmful it is to the world. There are many measures we should’ve started to put in place years ago that would’ve helped the environment, but I’m just happy we are doing something about it now. I as well try to limit the amount of waste I produce when I am working on my garments and projects, I know that most of my waste wouldn’t be recycle or reused and would cause harm to the environment in the long run. It is important to get your clothing to be used to the fullest extent and also make an effort of taking care of the clothes. I’ve had a cotton sweater for 4 years and it is still holding up and feels the same as when I bought it due to me taking care of it and making sure it is intact.

It’s all about the consumer behavior to achieve a circular economy that would be a huge revolution for the fashion industry to apply such a sustainable approach. This would reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by fifty percent! Most of the impact is done at the fiber and material stage for creating garments. Businesses these days are more focused on economics and making money rather than becoming eco friendly. It gave me hope that in the video they mentioned that brands are beginning and working hard to apply sustainability and reaching towards a goal more than ever before. I also thought it was brilliant that the brand Nanushka used QR codes on their tags!

The global fashion business has been widely credited for increasing environmental concerns such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. However, there has been a significant movement in recent years as more companies throughout the world recognize the critical need for sustainability in fashion. This awareness has resulted in a widespread adoption of sustainable practices throughout the business. From sustainably sourcing materials to minimizing waste and carbon emissions, brands are always reevaluating their processes to reduce their environmental impact. This united endeavor represents a substantial change from the status quo and a possible path toward a more ecologically responsible fashion business. By prioritizing sustainability, the fashion industry is not only addressing its role in environmental deterioration, but also leading projects that have the potential to reduce these issues.

The fashion industry isn’t sustainable, and now people are truly realizing the ginormous environmental impact. I agree the fashion industry has to take a more wholistic approach to their supply chain. I believe that overconsumption must be targeted first people are buying things that they don’t need just because they can. The fashion industry needs to in-turn stop over producing. It is hard for most of the population to buy inro sustainable fashion because of the cost of sustainable fashion. Most sustainable garments are legacy pieces that will last a lifetime but cost around $200-$7,000 dollars now. What we need to do now is expand the lifecycle of garments after the end-use is finished, we must find a way to recycle the old fibers back into our supply chain. I love the idea so transparency with Nanusha, they use qr codes on the care label t that leads to a website that translates their whole supply chain for their customer, this action adds to the value of the garment by adding to the value chain.

The video shows a promising trend in the fashion industry’s use of circularity, accountability, and transparency to solve social and environmental concerns. It highlights the industry’s acknowledgement of its role in contributing to biodiversity loss and climate change, as well as its attempts to lessen these effects. The industry wants to make major progress toward sustainability by encouraging sustainable behaviors and cutting back on overconsumption. The video emphasizes how important it is for companies, lawmakers, and consumers to work together to promote major and lasting changes in the fashion industry in the direction of a more sustainable future. All in all, it emphasizes collaboration and outreach as essential parts of a complete plan to address the complex challenges confronting this industry.

I’m glad that the United Nations is recognizing how the global fashion industry is directly contributing to global warming. I can see the Sustainable Fashion Communications Playbook being very useful in the future for combatting greenwashing. The fashion industry, including its consumers, would benefit from embracing a circular economy. I’m pleasantly surprised to see that a popular brand such as Nanushka is embracing transparency with their sustainability practices. I think QR codes on clothing labels is a very good idea in that direction. I also really agree with Marci Zaroff when she speaks about how every time a garment changes hands, there are more environmental impacts. I am familiar with this fact because of my major; a lot of carbon emissions are produced from shipping garments back and forth. Overall, I am very hopeful for the future in terms of sustainability in the fashion industry. I think as more consumers become aware of the problem, the more companies will be pushed to implement sustainability practices as well.

    • bridget_seagren

It provided insights into how brands are shifting towards more eco-friendly practices, emphasizing the importance of using sustainable materials and reducing waste. The video highlighted case studies of companies that have successfully integrated these practices into their business models, showing tangible benefits not only for the environment but also for their profitability. This discussion broadened my understanding of how sustainability can be effectively implemented in fashion, aligning environmental responsibility with commercial success.

After watching the video about global fashion business & sustainability I got encouraged to see how organizations in the fashion industry are working towards circular manufacturing. It is essential for us in the industry to share our knowledge with the consumers and build a connection in order to work towards sustainable fashion. The video highlights for instance that fashion brands use QR codes to connect and spread knowledge to their customers. What shocked me, but also gave me hope, was the fact that 70% of the impact on sustainability is on the fiber and material level. Therefore, if companies take sourcing and raw materials seriously when developing a supply chain they can add more value to the garment without adding cost. Convey knowledge, communicating with customers but also within the company, and sourcing of raw materials will lead the way towards a more sustainable industry.

    • Gracie_ruhlman

The video highlights growing awareness of the environmental impact and need for change. With concerns about climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss, consumers are increasingly demanding more eco friendly options. This shift isn’t only driven by ethical considerations, but also by the recognition on of the industries carbon footprint. As consider=umer preferences evolve and awareness grows, there is still hope for a more circular and sustainable approach to fashion production. This will lead to a cleaner and more positive environment.

    • daniellemesiti

I’m glad that there is finally a demand for businesses to become more sustainable, as the industry’s effects and over-consumption are causing great harm to the environment. The video mentioned a brand that is transparent about its carbon footprint and I think that is a great way for people to become more aware of what they are buying and the impact of that on the environment. I think a lot of people do not realize their impacts and implementing QR codes where consumers can see the effects of the garment on the environment will make a significant difference in what is bought.

    • Ronnie

The fashion industry is experiencing notable changes due to the increasing prominence of sustainable fashion, which highlights the significance for responsible and green practices. Sustainable fashion brands actively strive to lessen their environmental impact by emphasizing eco-friendly materials like recycled fabrics and organic cotton. Adopting ethical production methods also guarantees that workers are treated fairly and paid fairly along the entire supply chain. This move toward sustainability not only encourages the development of a circular economy in which goods are made to last a long time and be recyclable in order to reduce waste but it also encourages the development of novel materials and production methods, demonstrating that fashion and sustainability can coexist. Customers’ growing awareness of environmental issues has increased demand for sustainable fashion options, pushing the industry to adopt more environmentally friendly procedures and create the way for a more sustainable future in fashion.

The video on fashion decarbonization and the sustainable fashion communication playbook was incredibly insightful. Learning about the strategies for tackling greenwashing was particularly eye-opening. As a production management student, understanding the complexities of sustainable fashion is crucial. I learned the importance of transparent communication in the fashion industry to combat greenwashing and promote genuine sustainability efforts. This not only ensures ethical practices but also helps in building trust with consumers.

The fashion industry has had a significant impact on harming the environment. This has led to more people becoming aware of the issue and choosing sustainable fashion options. Consumers are also being encouraged to ask for changes from companies that are not environmentally friendly, in order to reduce the negative effects of fast fashion.
The Environmental impact the fashion industry is known for its significant environmental footprint, including water pollution, waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions. Embracing sustainable practices can help minimize these impacts, preserving natural resources and reducing pollution.
Social responsibility is critical in today’s market. Many fashion brands have faced criticism for poor working conditions in their supply chains, including issues like exploitation of labor, unsafe working environments, and low wages. By prioritizing social responsibility, companies can improve working conditions, promote fair wages, and support ethical labor practices.

    • lauren_phelps

Any step into making sustainable fashion more noticed and more viewed in the fashion world is a relief for me. We can not start change without being heard first. I am very happy to hear brands are making more of an effort to make sustainable fashion a more common use of practice. This is going to help our environment so much more than people think! I really hope every brand starts new methods to help this world problem, we can make a difference but it has to be consistent and everyone has to take a part of this plan in some way.

    • Andrea_Martiandy

I’m impressed by how leading fashion brands are integrating sustainability into their strategies, focusing on ethical sourcing and production. This not only helps the environment but also builds trust with consumers who value transparency. Additionally, innovations like using organic cotton and recycled polyester, along with initiatives such as garment rental and clothing recycling, show a shift towards more responsible consumption. The global impact of sustainable fashion is significant, promoting economic development, social equity, and environmental protection. This video reminds us of the power of sustainable fashion to drive positive change, urging both businesses and consumers to continue their efforts towards a more ethical and sustainable industry.

    • taylor_richards1

I think because sustainability is such a complex and intersectional issue, everyone wants to point their finger to the next person to get the job done — be more environmentally conscious. I really appreciate brands like Allbirds and Nanushka, being authentic with customers about the production of their products, but its also quite sad that its led to this. While I think its great to be educated on where your clothing comes from and how its made, not every individual customer will have time to research the materials of the clothing they need, nor do they know what “100% recycled cotton” or “made in Bangladesh” even means. We need to be able to put our trust in manufacturers because they’re the ones with the education — just like how we trust doctors to prescribe us medication because we, individually, don’t have the time/money/resources to educate ourselves. I think the industry is moving in this direction, but it’s also still difficult to differentiate what sustainable action is authentic and what is just greenwashing. Putting pressure on not only brands, but the government to monitor financials of corporations and manage production, will bring more transparency to the fashion industry.

The fashion industry is at a pivotal moment, facing increasing pressure to address its environmental impact. Brands and consumers alike are recognizing the need for change, pushing for eco-friendly practices and reduced waste. From recycling materials to adopting renewable energy, the shift towards sustainability is gaining momentum. It’s clear that the fashion industry must embrace this change to protect our planet for future generation

    • carolinesoulier

It’s encouraging to see a shift towards circularity, transparency, and accountability in addressing environmental and social challenges. The industry’s acknowledgment of its impact on climate change and biodiversity loss, coupled with initiatives to reduce overconsumption and promote sustainable practices, signifies a positive step forward. Collaboration between businesses, policymakers, and consumers is crucial in achieving meaningful and lasting change in the fashion sector.

After watching this short video, it is clear that Eco-fashion is created to not only have amazing fashion, but to also have a healthier environment. It’s objective is to reduce the environmental damage that was caused by the $3 trillion industry. The video also describes the term fashion’s carbon footprints– which indicates how much greenhouse gasses are getting released. This is up to 10% as of right now, and one thing that people are trying to do to commit to eco friendly fashion is by recycling old materials and not wasting it to create more waste. I believe this was very helpful to be acknowledged of because everyone knows how much danger is being put through the world due to high waste and pollution.

Many people think that the fashion business has contributed to the environmental crisis. As a result, the fashion sector has been urged to adopt more sustainable practices. to change the way they talk to regular customers. Helping consumers choose more environmentally friendly solutions is one of this calling’s objectives. The marketing teams are responsible for presenting fresh messages to dispel any false information and for utilizing greenwashing techniques to cut back on consumption and promote more environmentally friendly fashion. Additionally, they are attempting to persuade customers to demand more sustainable purchasing behavior from firms and decision-makers. In addition, a lot of influential people in the fashion business think that fashion can help combat climate change.

    • agoddess

The fashion industry has always played a big role in contributing to our environments damage. As a result of this many people are becoming more aware and making it a point to go the more sustainable route when it comes to fashion. Even consumers are encouraged to demand change from these companies that are not sustainable to decrease fast fashion.

    • Marbelin_Aracena

After watching this video, it super unbelievable the major effect that the fashion industry is causing on the environment but more interesting how does brands and designers are making to adapt mores sustainability. Which is something important to have because is a really good step for a better future on fashion and have preservation of our environment and communities around the world.

    • AVALON_GARCIA

Eco-fashion aims to reduce environmental damage in the $3 trillion fashion industry, which currently contributes to waste and pollution. Greenhouse emissions from fashion exceed 10%. Social media can promote eco-friendly practices and educate consumers about sustainable choices and greenwashing. Using codes to inform customers about a garment’s environmental impact is a clever idea. Brands like Target, Nike, and Madewell are already joining the movement. It’s a crucial time to address this issue, and positive changes in the industry’s future are promising.

    • skyyu2005

Eco-fashion is clothing that is thought to be less damaging to the environment. Despite being wonderful and a wellspring of creativity and innovation, the $3 trillion fashion business causes so much harm to the environment. It contributes to waste, pollution, and other issues that will harm our planet for a long time. As of right present, the amount of greenhouse emissions associated with the fashion industry is up to over 10%. The use of social media may open the door to supporting more environmentally friendly methods of producing clothing, giving customers the power to choose wisely when making clothing purchases, and educating them about myths and greenwashing.

I think the video’s demonstration of the use of codes is a really smart idea because it informs customers about whether the clothes they wish to buy is environmentally friendly or not. Target, Nike, and Madewell are just a few of the companies starting to join the movement towards greater environmental awareness. There has never been a better time to address this significant industry issue, and given the measures being taken to do so, we may be more positive about how this can enhance fashion in the years to come.

    • jennypham

Eco-fashion is fashion that is considered less harmful to our environment. Fashion, a 3 trillion industry, while magnificent and a source of innovation and creativity, exudes so much damage to nature. It contributes to pollution, waste and in other aspects that negatively effect our world for generations to come. Fashion’s carbon footprint, a term used to describe the amount of greenhouse gases, is up to nearly 10% as of now. The use of social media could pave the way into promoting more eco-friendly alternatives when it comes to producing fashion, empowering consumers to be mindful when deciding to make a purchase decision on a garment, and informing them of misinformation and green washing.

I think the use of QR codes shown in the video is a super useful idea, it lets consumers in on whether or not the piece of clothing they want to buy is sustainable or harming the environment. Brands like target, Nike, Madewell are all starting to hop on the train towards being more conscious of the environment. There is no better time than now to improve this major issue in the industry, and with the steps it is taking to combat said issues, we can be more optimistic on how this will improve fashion in the future.

    • jhosephine

The UN is urging the fashion industry to become more sustainable due to the harm they cause to the world such as climate change and pollution. They are consistently a big result of this. People are becoming more concerned with what is being produced and the harm it’s causing to not only the planet but the people involved as well.

    • Emily0822

Fashion has been known for being globally harmful. Now people are more interested about what’s going on with fashion which their being for sustainable for their fashion senses. However its not a very big change because this isn’t gonna be able to get changed over night it takes time for them to be able to do trains change. It’s gonna be a process that a lot brands are pushing to be more sustainable for their brands not to be cancelled for the way their harming the planet

    • TiffanyT

It’s a known fact that global fashion industries have been contributing to the environmental crisis like climate change, pollution and nature & biodiversity loss. But nowadays more companies globally have come to the realization that they need to move to more fashion stability. Everyone is jumping on the sustainability train. More brands are aiming to be more sustainable and are doing more to protect the environment we live in. The fashion industry is heading on a new route that can help stop many of the environmental crisis we are experiencing.

    • emilygxan

The fashion industry has been known for decades to damaging to the environment. People are starting to be aware of the fast fashion industry’s negative effects and starting to be sustainable, lowering the effects of fast fashion. Popular change brands and businesses have been doing to help prevent the effects of eco-friendly fashion. Reducing garment waste and recycling materials. These changes are occurring currently because of the rising concerns about the business’s effects on environmental damage due to fast fashion. Businesses are able to recycle products and garments, using renewable energy.

    • ALISON_CORDOVA

I am so glad that now people cares about the environment because fashion is a very damaging industry for our planet but the sustainability help us a lot in this problem but I don’t really know if we doing right because I dork want to say it’s too late but why now we should of do this before everything weather is changing and we are all scared of what is going to be our future I think people had to think more about it in the past is not late but it kinda is too.

    • Brandon_Howell

The fashion industry as it currently stands is an industry full of waste. Having a more linear approach to production, meaning trends go forward and not so much backwards, many brands in the fashion industry end up wasting products and material as they are no longer trendy. This has led to the fashion industry as a whole to have a huge carbon footprint(how much greenhouse gasses get released). But luckily many brands and producers are fighting to change this.
A popular method of reducing waste in fashion is eco friendly fashion. basically recycling old material. Also pushing for fashion to be more cyclical, or repeating, rather than always moving forward, is a good way to reduce how much materials are actually wasted. But why do these changes now? Well because people in this current day and age are, for the most part, growing increasingly concerned with the global warming crisis. Renewable energy, less wasteful products and more sustainable fashion are all things consumers are looking into and asking for from companies. And companies are apparently listening. Companies like Nike, Target, Costco, Macy’s and more have partnered with eco friendly brands and if this trend continues the carbon footprint of the fashion industry could drop up to 50%

    • Erickson_louis

It’s a great thing that people are finally starting to do more in terms of sustainability, lowering environmental impact, and reducing the loss of biodiversity. I always find it’s human nature to try and fix issues once it becomes too late though. Looking at the recent weather, It’s so abnormal and it’s clear that we have an impact on our world, but some people still don’t get that. Reducing the carbon footprint now is essential for the environment. Creating new consumer habits is essential. Creating a new lifestyle for us in a cycle rather than linear is essential. We as people need to do more to protect what we have on this planet. The damage done is done but we should continue working towards better solutions and move forward. Always knowing that everything we do has an impact in some way or another.

    • Christopher_sanchez

Many believe that the fashion industry has been contributing to an environmental crises(climate change, pollution and even biodiversity lost). Due to this, the fashion industry has been called to become more sustainable. To shift the way they communicate with daily consumers. One of the goals from this calling is to guide consumers to more sustainable options. The marketing teams are in charge of introducing new messaging to counter any misinformation and being able to greenwashing reduce consumption to promote more sustainable fashion. They are also trying to push consumers to demand more action from businesses as well as policy makers to shop sustainable. In addition many fashion industry leader believe fashion can actually be seen as a solution for climate change.

      • nrg123

The fashion industry has been a major cause of harm to our environment. Because of this, more people are realizing the problem and choosing sustainable fashion options. People are also being encouraged to ask fashion companies to change their ways and stop making clothes so quickly.
